Hokies officially announce ‘Cuse replacement

News first surfaced yesterday that Arkansas State would replace Syracuse on Virginia Tech’s 2011 schedule.

Today, the Hokies officially announced the move.

Syracuse had asked out of a home-and-home series with Virginia Tech earlier this month. Tech replaced the 2010 game with a match-up versus Boise State at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. The Hokies will now host Arkansas State to replace the 2011 ‘Cuse game.

Here’s the full press release of the announcement:

The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced Wednesday that it has come to terms with Arkansas State University for one football game to be played in Blacksburg during the 2011 season.

Virginia Tech had an open spot on both its 2010 and 2011 schedule and last week, it announced a game against Boise State University for Oct. 2, 2010 at FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins. This game against Arkansas State will complete the 2011 non-conference schedule.

Tech and Arkansas State have played three other times, in 1994, 1997 and 2002, all won by the Hokies in Blacksburg.
