Carroll denies latest accusations of Trojan missteps

Earlier today, we noted a report from the Los Angeles Times which stated Southern Cal may have bent NCAA rules by utilizing a special teams consultant last season.

This afternoon, USC head coach Pete Carroll denied any type of impropriety on the school’s part, and that the program went through the proper procedures in hiring Pete Rodriguez.

“We’ve documented it,” Carroll said according to the Orange County Register. “The topic has just come up because there’s an article on it. We dealt with this thing way back when to do it properly and do it the right way.

“To get to the point where we could have a guy be a consultant and come and see us, we did all of the homework, went through compliance, did all of the steps that you have to to make sure it’s OK.

“The way we understood and interpreted it, we tried to do everything exactly the right way. And that’s it.”

While Carroll may proclaim, that’s it, it’ll be up to the NCAA to decide if the Trojans did indeed follow the letter of the law as it relates to consultants.
