Leavitt leaving Bulls off his ballot

A little less than two weeks ago, South Florida head coach Jim Leavitt released his USA Today coaches’ poll ballot following a call-out from a national writer on all public school coaches involved to do as much.

In his initial ballot, Leavitt had his Bulls ranked at No. 18; the Bulls went unranked overall by both the coaches and the Associated Press. Additionally, he had three other Big East schools in his Top 25 -- Pittsburgh is No. 22, Rutgers No. 23 and Cincinnati No. 24; no conference schools were ranked in the Top 25 in the first offering of either poll.

Today, Leavitt indicated that the Bulls may have been overrated on his first ballot as he told USF beat reporters that he will drop his team from his personal rankings.

“I think you have to come out of the gate a little better,” Leavitt said according to the St. Petersburg Times. “I didn’t think we came out good enough. I just can’t justify it, and I want to be honest with my heart.”

Leavitt also said that this may be the last ballot he releases to the public.
