‘Bama board rubber stamps Saban extension

As expected, the Alabama board of trustees has unanimously approved the three-year contract extension given to head coach Nick Saban, the Birmingham News is reporting.

Financial details of the new deal that keeps Saban in Tuscaloosa through the 2017 season are not yet known, but it’s expected the particulars will be released by the school later on today. Saban’s original deal averages $4 million per season, so it’s safe to assume the coach would see at least a bump in pay with the additional years tacked on.

The two sides had been working on an extension throughout the offseason, and finally announced Aug. 29 that an agreement had been reached.
