Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio, along with basketball coach Tom Izzo, was given a one-year contract extensions today, MSU announced.
Dantonio’s boss, athletic director Mark Hollis, was given a three-year extension as well. All the contracts now run through 2016.
“Our athletics department, under the effective leadership of Mark Hollis, has demonstrated what I think is a commendable record of reflecting the standards and expectations of the MSU community,” MSU president Lou Anna K. Simon said in a statement. “On and off the field. On the court and in the classroom.
“Today’s action calls attention to athletic leadership here that is marked by very good people, composing a very good team, and a future with stability as well as excellence.”
During his two-plus years in East Lansing, the 43-year-old Dantonio has compiled a 17-10 record and a 9-7 mark in the Big Ten. He’s 0-2 in bowl games at MSU.
Overall, including his three years at Cincinnati, Dantonio has a 35-27 mark as a head coach.
