Update: Vols WR kicked off the team

Well, so much for a rest-of-the-regular-season suspension for Tennessee wide receiver Brandon Warren.

As it turns out, the punishment for his sideline meltdown is much, much more severe.

Head coach Lane Kiffin announced after practice this evening that Warren has been dismissed from the football program. Warren was involved in a heated sideline rant with his position coach, Frank Wilson.

Obviously, such a public display against a member of the coaching staff was something the head coach could not -- and would not -- tolerate.

Brandon Warren is no longer with our team,” Kiffin said. “He has been dismissed for conduct detrimental to our team. We wish him the best of luck.

“We’ll give him full academic support to keep him going in school, and that’s the last I’m going to comment on it. Very unfortunate.”

Barring a Chip Kelly-like reversal from Kiffin, Warren will finish his career at UT with 45 catches for 440 yards and three touchdowns. This season, the junior caught seven passes for 54 yards and two TDs.
