Weis gets creative with Tate

Golden Tate has to be haunting Nick Holt’s dreams. The defensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies devised a plan that was suppose to ensure that the Irish burner didn’t beat his secondary deep.

But instead it resulted in Tate torching the Husky secondary, getting 244 receiving yards on 9 catches. None were long bombs, but with a ten-yard cushion, Tate did all the damage he needed on comebacks, slants, and digs.

Over at the Inside the Irish blog, we take a look at the different ways Charlie Weis used his last healthy star receiver. With sophomore Michael Floyd going down with a broken clavicle, Weis was worried that teams would roll coverage over the top of Tate, trying to contain the talented junior.

So Weis has moved Tate from the slot, to split-end, as a Wildcat quarterback, a tailback, and even a fullback that motions out of the backfield.

Since NBC, well -- you know, broadcasts Notre Dame games, we’ve even got legally video proof of it.
