Richt says no QB change in the offing

The groundswell of criticism directed at first-year starting quarterback Joe Cox has been slowly rising throughout the early portion of the season, and reached a crescendo following a miserable performance in Georgia’s embarrassing loss to Tennessee Saturday.

For those UGA faithful looking at the trashing from the Volunteers to be the tipping point for the commencement of the Logan Gray Era in earnest, I would strongly suggest you don’t hold your breath.

Head coach Mark Richt seemed to take great pains to spread the blame around to the entire offense, and strongly intimated that a change at QB is not in the offing. At least for the foreseeable future.

“I think Joe took a couple shots that probably shook him up a little bit,” Richt said. “He probably would never admit to that. But before we have any successful quarterback play, we’ve got to run the ball better and pass protect better than we did.

“We’ve got to get better, period. We’ve got to get better at defense, get better on offense, we’ve got to get better in all areas. And we’ve got to get better at coaching.”

So, at least for now and right or wrong, Cox will live to fight another day.

And I believe I just heard a few of my friends with an UGA lean punch themselves in the face.
