Cal running back Jahvid Best will miss his second straight game due to a concussion, head coach Jeff Tedford announced this afternoon.
Tedford says there’s “no way” the back will be available for the Big Game against Stanford Saturday.
Best was involved in a frightening seven-foot -- at least -- fall Nov. 7 against Oregon State as he attempted to vault into the end zone for a score. The leap resulted in a few tense moments as Best was knocked unconscious for a period of time.
The All-Pac-10 back was ultimately diagnosed with a severe concussion. It was Best’s second concussion in an eight-day span.
Given the severe nature of the injury and the fact that he had two concussions so close together, it’s uncertain when -- or even if -- Best will be able to return during the regular season.
The junior leads the Golden Bears with 867 yards rushing and 16 total touchdowns -- 12 rushing, four receiving.
