Clausen’s face used as speed bag?

Both the Chicago Tribune and ESPN.com are reporting that Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was involved in an altercation outside of a South Bend bar very early Sunday.

Following the Irish’s loss to UConn Saturday night -- the likely death knell for Charlie Weis’ run as Irish head coach -- Clausen reportedly went to CJ’s Pub with his parents and/or other family members.

According to the ESPN report and citing a person briefed on the incident, Clausen was “sucker-punched” as he left the establishment. The source said that a fan allegedly said “something” to either Clausen or a female acquaintance. The Tribune reports that the incident happened at 2:30 Sunday morning and left Clausen with at least one black eye.

No police reports had been filed over the incident at the time the Tribune story hit their website.

ESPN reports that any injuries Clausen incurred should not keep him out of this weekend’s season finale against Stanford.
