Blown-out knee ends UConn LB’s season

UConn linebacker Greg Lloyd suffered a significant knee injury in the Huskies’ win over Syracuse that not only ends his 2009 season, but also throws into doubt the starter’s availability for the start of summer camp in 2010.

The junior ‘backer tore both the ACL and MCL in his left knee in the win, and he will miss not only the regular-season finale against South Florida and the Huskies’ bowl game, but he’s already been ruled out of spring practice as well.

“You won’t see him in the spring,” head coach Randy Edsall said. “He won’t be ready for the spring. I would hope that he would be ready in August. We’ll know more when they go in and perform the surgery. He was blitzing and his leg was in the ground and a guy got him right there. It was nothing dirty. His leg was in the ground, he got turned and cut.”

Scott Lutrus will replace Lloyd at middle linebacker for the balance of the season.
