Swarbrick makes it official: Charlie canned

Athletic director Jack Swarbrick confirmed this afternoon what’s been reported for at least a month and what the New York Daily News reported early this afternoon -- Charlie Weis is out as head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Swarbrick made the announcement via a press release.

“We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations,” Swarbrick said in the statement. “As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he’s as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results.”

So, there you have it. It’s officially official. The Charlie Weis Era in South Bend is over, and the search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

In other words, Brian Kelly, you’re up.

And we should also pause for a moment of silence in honor of esteemed poster robertg, who probably won’t be able to participate in this moving tribute as he’s likely knee-deep in paperwork trying to get the RICO charges against Swarbrick filed by the close of business today...
