Michigan back out for spring ball

An ACL tear will prevent running back Vincent Smith from participating in spring practice, head coach Rich Rodriguez said according to the AnnArbor.com.

The Michigan freshman suffered the injury in the season-ending loss to Ohio State. Smith finished his first season in Ann Arbor with 276 yards -- good for fourth on the team -- and led the Wolverines with 32 yards against the Buckeyes before going down with the injury.

Rodriguez said Smith “should be ready for next fall.”

Another player with a torn ACL, outstanding center David Molk, will miss spring ball as well. However, "[h]e’ll be ready for everything in the summer,” Rodriguez said.

Molk suffered his injury back in October.
