Gophers, suspended RB ‘part ways’

During Kevin Whaley‘s 22 months with the Minnesota football program, the running back has been shot in the leg, Tasered, arrested twice and suspended at least twice.

Now, for some reason, Whaley is no longer a part of the Gopher football program.

Whaley was indefinitely suspended by head coach Tim Brewster shortly after being arrested in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day and charged with assault. Shortly after being suspended, Whaley asked for, and was granted a release from, his Minnesota scholarship.

Brewster made the announcement via a press release and has not been made available for further comment.

Whaley, a redshirt freshman, was second on the Gophers this season with 367 yards rushing.
