With Scroggins out, recruit hopes Facebook saves Trojans

Blue-chip quarterback Jesse Scroggins, who has been committed to Southern Cal since July, didn’t enroll in classes Monday for the second semester, putting his commitment in question.

As the Knoxville News Sentinel reports, the Trojans’ loss might be Tennessee’s gain, as Vols coach Lane Kiffin recruited the talented signal-caller hard right up until (and probably long after) he chose the hometown Trojans. The lack of communication from anyone at Heritage Hall likely did the Trojans in, as Scroggins’ high school coach, Thad MacNeal, told the Wall Street Journal they hadn’t heard from anyone at USC.

Meanwhile, one USC recruit has taken to Facebook to help save the crumbling USC recruiting class. Randall Telfer, a tight end from nearby Rancho Cucamonga, has formed the group “Let’s keep the 2010 USC Football recruiting class together!!” with hopes that it’ll keep the elite group of recruits Pete Carroll put together with the Trojans. The group has around 550 people in it, and offers all the intelligence you’d expect out of an open forum that allows just about anyone to say anything they’d like on the internet without repercussions.
