Herd officially announces new coordinator

Even as he’s been working as Marshall’s defensive coordinator for the last few days, there’s been no official announcement regarding Chris Rippon‘s addition to new head coach Doc Holliday‘s staff.

Until this evening.

According to a statement released through the school’s website, Rippon has been hired to serve as the Herd’s new coordinator.

“Chris is a great football coach that brings a wealth of experience as a defensive coordinator and as a special teams coordinator to our program,” Holliday said in a statement. “He is a great motivator that coaches with a great deal of energy. He also shares my philosophy in regards to relationship building and being involved with your student-athletes lives. Chris and his family will be a great addition to our coaching staff and the Huntington community.”

“I am so happy to have the opportunity to be at Marshall. This is a successful program with a great history and tradition,” Rippon said in his own statement. “I have had the opportunity to work with several coaches in my career who have come through Marshall in Steve Dunlap, Jerry Azzinaro and Kevin Kelly and all three of them spoke so highly of the Marshall faithful and their time here that it really sealed the deal for me and my family. I have always respected Coach Holliday and I am looking forward to being a part of the Marshall family.”

Since leaving Syracuse in 2004, Rippon spent time at Ole Miss and Rutgers before he sat out the 2009 season. He was the Orange’s defensive coordinator for five seasons under Paul Pasqualoni.
