Gators hunting for new DC yet again

Remember that whole leave of absence Urban Meyer was going to start immediately following National Signing Day? The Florida head coach may have to delay it yet again as he has yet another vacancy to fill on his coaching staff.

And it’s a fairly large vacancy that he’d just filled less than a month ago.

According to Mike Florio of our redheaded stepsister PFT, defensive coordinator George Edwards has abruptly left the UF program for the same job with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.

“I feel like this is a great opportunity for me to come in and have a chance to work with coach [Chan] Gailey again and the staff that he has been able to put together,” Edwards said in a statement. “I am excited to have the opportunity to come to Buffalo and look forward to getting started as quickly as possible. This is a team that has played good defense in the past and I am excited to continue on with that tradition.”

Edwards’ hiring was announced by the school on Jan. 8, so he lasted less than four weeks in Gainesville.

So, where will the Gators turn this late in the game? We have no clue as it took a good bit of time -- nearly a month -- for Meyer to replace Charlie Strong with Edwards.
