‘Bama DB suspended for spring, maybe longer

Thanks to expired eligibility and early entry into the NFL, Alabama is facing the none-too-small task of replacing seven defensive backs from their 2009/2010 BcS championship team.

Now, one of the players expected to compete for a starting job will be out at least through the end of spring practice.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, and citing multiple unnamed sources, junior-to-be Robbie Green has been suspended by head coach Nick Saban for violating team and NCAA rules. The specific issue(s) that led to the punishment were not revealed.

Sources also told the News that the suspension could extend beyond spring ball.

Last season, Green started six games and played in 14 total during the Tide’s championship run.
