Gopher lineman trading cleats for track shoes

The experienced depth along Minnesota’s offensive line took a hit today as center Trey Davis has decided to leave the football program for track.

The 6-2, 276-pound Davis finished fourth in the 100-meter dash* at the Big Ten’s indoor championships earlier this year, and obviously decided that his future was on a track instead of the gridiron.

Davis started six games during his two seasons with the Gophers -- five in 2008, one in 2009. His 2009 season was cut short by an ankle injury.

(*: Just checking to see if you were paying attention. Davis finished fourth in the shot put. And he’s fairly competent in the discuss as well.)
