A Savage ‘takes control’ of Rutgers’ offense

Based on how how Tom Savage‘s performance as a freshman in 2009, it looked as if the quarterback had assumed control of Rutgers’ offense.

As he embarks on spring practice 2010, it sounds as if he’s taken ownership as well.

Savage, who earned Freshman All-American honors after throwing for more than 2,200 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, tells the CentralJersey.com that things have slowed down a bit this spring after a whirlwind inaugural season with the Scarlet Knights.

I feel like I can kind of take control of the offense,” Savage said. “The quarterback is the coach out there on the field so I gotta know what everyone’s doing this year. Last year was a little bit tough because everything was getting thrown at you fast.

“But now I have an offseason just focus on what everyone’s doing. So it’s just fun right now. I’m enjoying it.”
