Ex-Vols QB Stephens finds new home

For those of you curious -- or just simply bored and have nothing better to do -- former Tennessee Volunteer Nick Stephens has found a new collegiate home.

The ex-Vols quarterback has decided to start over at Tarleton State (Tex.) according to a tweet from ESPN‘s Joe Schad.

After being dropped down the depth chart on April 7 by head coach Derek Dooley, Stephens somewhat stunningly decided to transfer the very next day. Upon his departure, Stephens told the Knoxville News Sentinel that he was “surprised” by the demotion and that the Dooley’s decision “made me sick.”

As Tarleton State is a Div. II school, Stephens will be eligible to begin playing immediately.

UPDATE 4:09 p.m. ET: Schad has spoken to Stephens, and the quarterback hints that there was more to the demotion than meets the eye.

“If anything I’m even more sure of my decision now,” Stephens said. “A lot of things were happening around me. I had an unsettling feeling and I didn’t want to have that feeling. There were some things that happened at practice that I don’t really want to get into. But I needed to find somewhere else to play.”

Stephens added that he’ll continue to watch Tennessee games and that he “still [has] a lot of good friends on the team that I’ll continue to support.”
