Suspended Husky gets six months for assault

Washington Huskies defensive end Andru Pulu has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to second-degree assault of another student at a college party in March. Pulu had been suspended indefinitely since his arrest by UW head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Pulu assaulted a young man who allegedly tried to break up an argument that Pulu was in with another person at the party. Witnesses reported that Pulu punched the man, knocking him unconscious, then stomped and kicked him after he fell to the ground. The incident was so bad that the sole of Pulu’s shoe was still visible on the victim’s temple days after the attack.

Pulu has been in jail since April 6. There’s no word if he’ll receive credit for time already served.

Pulu is a Washington native and was one of only ten freshman to see the field for the Huskies last season, spending most of his time on special teams. After the incident, Sarkisian released in a statement that Pulu “has been suspended indefinitely from the University of Washington football team due to a violation of team rules.”

(Hopefully, the understatement of Sarkisian’s tenure at UW.)

There’s been no report on whether or not Sarkisian expects Pulu to rejoin the team. He’s not listed on the spring roster for the Huskies.
