Actual headline: ‘Vanderbilt will stay in SEC’

And, in other breaking news, water is still wet and Ben Roethlisberger is still really douchey with a side of skeezy.

Apparently, there was a report somewhere on ESPN.com -- that I cannot find -- which stated that Vanderbilt -- along with Maryland and Georgia Tech -- were possibilities for an expanded Big Ten.

(Hey, I can hear the laughter. Knock it off. It’s on the ‘Net, so it’s totally true and not completely laughable.)

Needless to say, the Commodores were quick to react to the rumors and shoot them down, which is kinda, sorta like shooting down a duck that’s already been shot down and is laying on the ground. Dead. And rigor mortis has set in.

“To my knowledge, and I think it’s solid, we have not received any inquiries from (the Big Ten),” David Williams, Vanderbilt’s vice chancellor for university affairs and athletics, told The Tennessean.

“If anybody thinks we’re in negotiations, rest assured we are not. I would be very, very surprised if the Big Ten came to us, and I would be very, very surprised if we’d leave the SEC. We are a founding member of the SEC and that’s where most of our folks think that we belong.”

So, any SEC fans who were concerned/worried/petrified about the Commodores bolting the conference, you can now officially rest easy.

And, you’re welcome.
