Report: Pac-10 to issue invites this week

On Sunday, commissioner Larry Scott was given the authority by his Pac-10 bosses to advance the expansion process.

Based on at least one report, he’s going to waste little time in wielding that power.

According to Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com, “Scott will start extending invitations formally to six Big 12 schools this week.”

Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are all but guaranteed to get an invitation; the sixth school, Brown reports, will come down to Baylor and Colorado, depending on how much political pull president Kenneth Starr and some 15-odd Baylor alumni currently residing in the Texas legislature have in maintaining BU’s place on UT’s coattails.

If the invitations are extended, it’s likely that the six schools would wait and see if Nebraska and Missouri will “comply” with a Friday “deadline” for declaring Big 12 loyalty.

If those two schools don’t? It’s likely the end of the Big 12 as we know it.
