Gamecocks lineman Richardson undergoes surgery, status for ’10 unknown

A potential starter along South Carolina’s offensive line, Quentin Richardson underwent what the school termed successful shoulder surgery Tuesday morning.

What’s left up in the air is the junior’s availability for the 2010 season.

Richardson suffered the injury at some point this offseason, and the surgical procedure performed earlier today was to repair a tendon in his left shoulder. The school wrote in the release that the offensive tackle will be sidelined indefinitely.

However, Travis Haney of the Charleston Post & Courier wrote on his Twitter page this evening that “Richardson is expected to miss [the] 2010 season.”

Richardson played in eight games in 2009, starting five of them. He suffered an injury to his right shoulder in the Gamecocks’ regular-season finale, and the subsequent surgery knocked him out of the school’s bowl game.
