Ames police investigating Big 12’s Newcomer of the Year

It’s been four days since we’ve had to reset the “Days Without An Arrest” ticker back to double zero.

Based on one report, that could very well be changing in the very near future.

According to the Des Moines Register, Iowa State defensive back David Sims is the subject of a police investigation involving a stolen credit card. The investigation stems from a Des Moines woman, the Register writes, reporting her credit card stolen and being used unlawfully in Ames on July 17.

Authorities issued a search warrant for Sims’ Ames residence Wednesday. The warrant was sealed.
“There were some things recovered that were listed on the search warrant,” Ames Police commander Mike Brennan said Thursday.
He would not say what was found or what the warrant included.

“We’ve got the information, now it’s a matter of reviewing the information,” Story County Attorney Stephen Holmes said of the police findings sent to his office.

Iowa State associate athletic director Tom Kroeschell told the paper that they “are aware of an incident involving David Sims. We are in the process of seeking more information about the incident.”

Sims transferred from the JUCO ranks to the Cyclones -- after a heavy flirtation with Oklahoma -- and was the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Year based on his five-interception 2009 season.
