The Big Ten and Pac-10 end (sometimes, now) their respective college football season in Pasadena’s Rose Bowl.
If Larry Scott and other have their way, that’s the way the two conferences will start their seasons in the future as well.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Pac-10 and Rose Bowl officials are in the discussion stage regarding an annual game that would kickoff the college football season on the West Coast. Specifically, the two sides are looking at the possibility of pitting a school from the Pac-10 against a school from the Big Ten.
Commissioner Scott confirmed the discussions, but also warned that it’s far from a done deal.
“The Pac-10 has a tradition of playing some really tough out-of-conference games early on,” Scott said. “We love the Rose Bowl relationship. ...
“There’s a lot to think through. I would only want to do it if it wouldn’t tarnish what it means to play in the Rose Bowl. This is hallowed turf.”
