Achilles tear ends season for starting Illini DB

In what could prove to be Ron Zook‘s final season, it’s going to be tough enough for Illinois to be competitive if they have every last player healthy and available.

Unfortunately for the Illini, they are down a starter they can ill afford to lose.

According to the Champaign News-Gazette, starting safety Supo Sanni has suffered a torn Achilles tendon and will miss the entire 2010 season. The junior suffered the injury during practice Wednesday.

“I feel bad for him, but he’ll be alright,” Zook said of Sanni, who has played in 23 games the past two seasons.

Travon Bellamy will now start at one safety spot, with JUCO transfer Trulon Henry manning the other.
