Boise State-VaTech draws record ratings

It was the talk of the college football world late Monday night and well into the day Tuesday. As it turns out, it was also a boon for television ratings.

According to numbers released by ESPN, a record 7.25 million households took in Boise State’s 33-30 win over Virginia Tech. That number broke the “old” standard of 7.24 million households for USC-Ohio State last year.

9.9 million viewers watched the game at some point, behind the nearly 10.6 million in ’09 that viewed the Trojans win over the Buckeyes.

The 7.3 rating still lagged behind a game played 16 years ago; in 1994, Florida State-Miami pulled in a 7.7.

So, at least ratings-wise, the Broncos are officially no longer a hidden gem or a Cinderella. Then again, most everyone should’ve known that before the game ever started.
