Rinse, lather, repeat: Gators still limp on offense

Is it time to panic when it comes to the Florida offense yet? Nearly six quarters in, the results say it’s at least time to get a hand within striking distance of the panic button.

Exactly a week after putting up a paltry 13 yards -- +/- a yard -- in the first half of their closer-than-it-should’ve been win over Miami of Ohio, Florida is at it again. Or, more precisely when it comes to the offense, not at it again.

Through nearly two quarters of play against South Florida, not only do the Gators trail 7-0 to their in-state rivals, but they’re nearly as inept offensively as they were a week ago. Up until a drive midway through the second quarter, they’d put up a whopping 60 yards of total offense -- 41 passing, 19 rushing.

As I’m typing this, the Gators are beginning to move the ball -- by “moving the ball” I mean they got a first down -- but there is something wrong with this Gator offense, an offense that has no business performing at the level they are with the on-paper talent they possess.

Whatever the case, whether it’s a quick band-aid at halftime -- or a tourniquet -- head coach Urban Meyer and his staff needs to find some magic elixir or they could find themselves on the wrong end of a stunningly embarrassing upset at the hands of the Bulls.

One more memo to the Gators, this time for their defense: 117 rushing yards allowed to the Bulls? That might be more unacceptable than the play of the offense.
