Hoosiers lose starting corner ‘for a while’

When Indiana takes the field this weekend against the No. 8 scoring offense in the country, they’ll do so without one of their veteran defensive stalwarts.

Starting cornerback Richard Council suffered a knee injury late in the Hoosiers’ loss to Michigan and will not play against Ohio State Saturday. Not only that, but Council appears likely to miss an extended period of time based on the words of his head coach.

“Richard Council, we’re probably going to lose him for a while,” Bill Lynch said. “He hurt a knee on that last long pass play in the final drive, so it looks like we’re going to lose him for a little bit. After the game we didn’t know, but he had it looked at this afternoon and we found out this afternoon.”

The senior had started the first the first four games of the season for the 3-1 Hoosiers after starting 14 games and playing in 19 total the past two seasons. Council’s 2008 season ended prematurely as well, with an ankle injury knocking the then-sophomore out for the final two games.

The Bloomington Herald Times writes that Andre Kates and Adrian Burks are the two likely contenders for Council’s job during his absence.
