‘Huskers could have starting LB back in very near future

It’s not like the Nebraska defense really needs it -- their fourth in scoring defense, 12th in total defense -- but the Blackshirts could be getting additional quality help in the very near future.

Linebacker Will Compton, who started eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2009, suffered a broken bone in his foot two days before the start of the 2010 season. The initial prognosis was that he would miss significant playing time, and proved to be correct as he’s missed the first five games of the year.

However, Compton’s return to the playing field is fast approaching. According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Compton returned to the practice field Monday and may be available for this weekend’s huge Big 12 match-up with Texas.

Saying he was somewhat limited but still “did pretty good out there today”, head coach Bo Pelini seemed to indicate it will be later in the week before an official determination will be made on the Compton’s availability for Saturday.

“Will’s got some experience, he has some good understanding of what we’re doing,” Pelini said. “It really depends on how he feels.”
