Hoosiers lose leading rusher for rest of 2010

Darius Willis sat out Indiana’s loss to Ohio State with a groin injury.

Thursday, the school announced that the running back will not return this season. Due, though, to an injury a little further south.

According to an IU press release, Willis has a patellar tendon injury and will miss the remainder of 2010. The knee injury was not something that just cropped up this week; rather, it’s been a lingering issue all season and led to the sophomore being listed as doubtful for this weekend’s game against Arkansas State.

Willis will undergo surgery next Wednesday, and the release states that the school’s medical staff feels he will make a full recovery.

Even after missing last week’s game, Willis’ 278 yards rushing and four touchdowns are tops on the team. He’s also caught 11 passes for 102 yards out of the backfield.
