Clemson running back Andre Ellington has quietly put together a remarkable season. You would think since C.J. Spiller‘s departure that there would be more room for talk on his potential replacement, but it has been just the opposite.
Talks of Kyle Parker‘s future with the football program overshadowed anything and everything else. That’s not to say it was not deserved; Parker was spectacular last year for Clemson, and not just on the gridiron.
Ellington currently sits at fifth in the ACC in rushing yards, third in rushing yards per game, and tied for first in rushing touchdowns. Since he began to return kicks, he has recorded five returns for 201 yards and a score. His 40.2 yards per return average is nearly double anyone else’s in the conference.
For his efforts thus far on the year, Ellington has since been added to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List. The award is brand spankin’ new, and will be given to the athlete that is voted as the most versatile in all of college football.
Ellington’s rise on the field will help Parker balance the Tigers’ offense, which Clemson desperately needs if Dabo Swinney hopes to return to the ACC title game. Clemson takes on Boston College in Chestnut Hill tomorrow at noon.
