Texas Tech playing the guessing game at the QB position

If you’re wondering just who will start at quarterback for Texas Tech this weekend, you’re gonna have to wait a couple of days to find out along with everybody else.

Taylor Potts and Steven Sheffield renewed their preseason QB battle during practice this week after head coach Tommy Tuberville decided to reopen the competition. While Tuberville may already know who his starter will be, he’s not going to divulge that information to the public until one of them runs on the field to take the first snap against Missouri.

Tuberville said the decision to not release the name of his starter doesn’t give the Red Raiders any type of advantage going into the game with the Tigers. Tech was faced with the same “dilemma” last week as Texas A&M didn’t name a starter until game day, and then backup Ryan Tannehill proceeded to start and torch Tech for over 400 yards passing.

“It’s the same offense,” the coach said. “We go into that game last week, and it really didn’t make any difference. They ran the same offense with Tannehill that they did with the other guy. You can’t make a whole lot of changes. You might put one or two things in, but it’s the same thing.”
