Just when you thought it was safe to read college football news again.
Former Florida Gator and media-proclaimed G.O.A.T., Tim Tebow, is currently in the works of writing an inspirational memoir titled Through My Eyes. He’s 23.
The memoir, which does not yet have a release date, will recount events in Tebow’s life, from his birth in the Philippines, to his home-schooled upbringing and controversial pro-life Super Bowl ad.
Initially blogged by Mike Florio over at Pro Football Talk, the news of Tebow’s new tell-all has spread like wildfire to the likes of Yahoo! Sports and ESPN. Tebow, currently a backup quarterback for the Denver Broncos, hasn’t even thrown a regular season pass yet, but you’re in a state of unimaginable denial if you think Tebow hasn’t already made an impact on the college -- and professional -- football worlds.
For one, Tebow is one of the most polarizing icons to ever play the game. Yes, an icon. He’s won a Heisman trophy and has a pair of national championship rings on his fingers. His “promise” to the Gator nation has been so ceremoniously overplayed that I think I actually have it memorized in the back of my psyche.
The bottom line is that book deals are about sales and putting Tebow’s name on the front cover of a paperback has the potential to make a helluva lot of them. Love him or hate him, Tebow is interesting. He’s outspoken about his religious beliefs -- unique for a player in his position -- and he appeals to a variety of demographics.
His story is not run-of-the-mill and, for that reason, people will read it.
