Punch to the face: Boise loses starting linebacker

Byron Hout has cemented himself in Boise State folklore. Mind you, it’s just not for anything he’s done on the field.

Hout, whose claim to fame was on the receiving end of a sucker punch thrown by Oregon’s Legarrette Blount last season, broke his foot in Boise State’s 52-14 and will miss the remainder of the 2010 regular season.

“That’s a tough loss because Byron was playing so darn well,” coach Chris Petersen said. “He’s not just a good player. He’s really an emotional leader for us. So that one hurts (wakka wakka wakka).”

The injury will require surgery and it’s not known if Hout will return for Boise’s bowl game. Hout was fourth on the team with 34 tackles.
