Louisiana-Lafayette latest to can their coach

For the ninth time in the past five weeks -- and the fourth time in the past 24 hours -- a Div. 1-A head coach has found himself booted from the sidelines straight onto the unemployment line.

The latest coaching casualty in a firing line that shows no signs of slowing down and will only pick up steam in the coming weeks is apparently long-time Louisiana-Lafayette coach Rickey Bustle.

According to the Associated Press, and citing a source familiar with the decision, the Sun Belt conference school fired Bustle following the conclusion of the Ragin’ Cajuns’ regular season Saturday. Athletic director David Walker plans to announce the dismissal on Monday.

In his eight years at the helm, Bustle compiled a 41-65 record, including 3-9 this season. Bustle never led ULL to a bowl game, although he did manage a co-conference title in 2005.

As for potential replacements, we’re fairly certain we can state that Jon Gruden‘s name will not be mentioned.
