Stunner: Muschamp to be named new Gator head coach

Leave it to the Florida Gators to grab some of the spotlight that should’ve been a solo shine on another SEC school tonight.

Just as the Heisman ceremony was beginning, and as Auburn’s Cam Newton was on the verge of becoming the school’s third winner in a runaway, there’s a stunner developing in Gainesville.

According to the Florida Times-Union and the Associated Press -- and Tim Tebow as well -- Florida has chosen Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp as the Gators’ next head coach. An announcement from the school is expected later tonight.

It’s being reported that athletic director Jeremy Foley met with Muschamp in Austin today and offered the coordinator the job, although there’s been no official confirmation from the school on the hire.

Although, does it really get any more official than a tweet from Tebow?

If it is indeed Muschamp, it would be more than a mild surprise as the current Longhorns coach-in-waiting has barely been on anyone’s radar since Meyer stepped down earlier this week.

This move would also mean that Mack Brown would have two new coordinators in place next season.
