‘Huskers could get Niles Paul back for bowl game

A little less than three weeks after suffering an injury that kept him out of Nebraska’s last two games, it appears Niles Paul is closing in on being healthy enough to return for the Cornhuskers’ next game.

The wide receiver suffered a broken foot during practice in the week leading up to the Colorado game, knocking the senior out of not only the Buffaloes game but the Big 12 title game as well.

Head coach Bo Pelini, though, said Monday there’s “a good chance” Paul will be healthy and available for the Dec. 30 Holiday Bowl against Washington. Trainers have told Paul that, more than two weeks ahead of the postseason game, there’s a better than 50-percent chance he will be available.

At the time of the injury, Paul was Nebraska’s leader in receptions; his 39 catches are now second to Brandon Kinnie‘s 42, although he’s still the team leader in receiving yards (516).

Paul is also the team’s leader in punt- and kick-return average.
