Ex-prep All-American LB leaves ‘Horns

Bottom of the news barrel, meet scraped.

Tariq Allen entered Texas in 2009 as a highly-touted linebacker out of an Irving (Tex.) high school. Two years later, Allen has taken his leave of the program never having seen a minute of time on the playing field.

Both the Austin-American Statesman and Houston Chronicle are reporting that Allen is no longer a member of the football team. While no specific reason was given for the decision, it’s fair to say that lack of playing time could’ve provided some of the impetus.

It’s unclear at this point where he may transfer to, although, before signing with UT, he had taken official visits to Texas A&M, Kansas, Purdue and Oklahoma.

Allen was given a four-star member as a member of the Longhorns’ 2009 recruiting class, and was rated as the No. 16 inside linebacker in the country. ESPN had him rated as the No. 4 player at the position.
