Clemson assistant coach calls it quits

On the same day that Clemson pulled in one of the more pleasantly surprising recruiting classes, long-time assistant coach Brad Scott announced his retirement from the program to take on an administrative role within the department.

Scott was Clemson’s associate head coach under Dabo Swinney and offensive line coach. Ironically, the announcement of Scott’s departure came shortly after Clemson landed what might be it’s best recruiting class ever -- a class that Scott heavily influenced.

“He [Scott] is the reason we have two of our three five-star signees from the state of Florida,” said Swinney.

“I have given this a lot of thought and discussed this with my family for some time,” said Scott. “But, when I approached Coach Swinney about this in December I was comfortable with the decision. The timing is right because we have a veteran offensive line returning.”

Scott has been in the coaching circuit for roughly 30 years, including stops at Florida State and South Carolina, where he was the head football coach for 5 years.
