BC might be close to naming new coordinator

Exactly four weeks after Gary Tranquil announced he was retiring from coaching, Boston College appears to be on the verge of hiring his replacement at offensive coordinator.

Head coach Frank Spaziani, per the Boston Globe, is currently in New York City for a fundraiser but is expected to return to campus Wednesday. The Globe reports that the school could name their new coordinator around the time of the coach’s return.

It appears that the list of external candidates include Kevin Rogers, former Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach; Jim Hofher, University of Delaware offensive coordinator; Chris Palmer, former NFL head coach and offensive coordinator; and Peter Vaas, USF QB coach. Those coaches were among the handful of candidates from outside the program who have previously interviewed for the position.

As far as candidates already on Spaziani’s staff, wide receivers coach Ryan Day and tight ends coach Dave Brock have also been interviewed for the job.

One external candidate who interviewed has taken himself out of consideration. Former BC quarterback Mike Kruczek was seeking a multi-year contract from his alma mater, but the school wasn’t willing to go with more than a one-year deal.

Based on the speculation we’ve been hearing, Rogers could very well be considered the front-runner, although that’s from a certainty.
