Cleared recruit still planning to sign with Buckeyes

Expected to sign a Letter of Intent with Ohio State on signing day, Chris Carter was instead arrested on allegations that he had fondled eight underage girls at his Cleveland, OH, high school.

Four days after police decided against pursuing charges due to a lack of evidence, the offensive lineman still has yet to sign his LOI and send it to the Buckeyes. That, however, could change in short order.

Ohio State has kept a spot open in their 2011 recruiting class for Carter pending the resolution of the legal issue, and the lineman told the Columbus Dispatch Thursday night that he has every intention of fulfilling a lifelong dream and signing with the Buckeyes.

“I don’t know when I’m going to sign it, but I know I am due,” Carter told the paper.

Not only does Carter intend to sign with OSU, but there’s also the possibility that he could become an early enrollee and participate in spring practice. Given the “situation” at his high school -- it was alleged he talked upwards of eight girls into various stages of undress while pretending to measure them for ROTC uniforms -- it might be best for all involved if he left yesterday.

“It’s a chance,” Carter said of enrolling at OSU early. “I’m not sure how big the chance is, but it is a chance.”

As noted by the Dispatch, Carter has until Feb. 14 to sign his LOI before it “expires”. At that point, Ohio State would simply issue a new LOI if they still have the desire to make the three-star player a part of their 2011 recruiting class. Based on the fact that, as far as we know, the school has yet to pull their offer, that would appear to be a near certainty if he hasn’t signed by the “deadline”.
