UGA’s Aaron Murray reportedly suffers lower-leg injury

While the details are relatively scant at this point in time, it appears Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray suffered some type of lower-leg injury over the weekend. The seriousness of the injury, though, depends on the report.

Seth Emerson of the Macon Telegraph addressed the rumors in a blog post Monday afternoon, writing that one source he spoke to confirmed it was a foot the Bulldogs starter had injured, but that it didn’t appear to be serious. The initial speculation had Murray suffering an ankle injury.

However, the school’s student newspaper is reporting that the injury is indeed to the ankle, and that the joint is broke in two places.

UGA has yet to publicly address whether Murray was injured and, if he was, to what extent, although the school is expected to release a statement on the injury at some point today.

As noted by Emerson, UGA begins spring practice March 10 and then, after one practice session, are off until March 22. The source told Emerson it’s conceivable Murray could be held out of the first spring session, and then return after the nearly two-week hiatus. If the ankle is broken as reported by the student paper, however, it would appear unlikely Murray would be available at all for spring ball.

In his first season as a starter in 2010, Murray threw for just over 3,000 yards, with 24 touchdowns versus eight interceptions.
