Pair of Tar Heel receivers to miss spring practice

North Carolina announced Friday that cornerback Charles Brown would miss the season opener after the NCAA found he had received less than $100 in impermissible benefits.

In the same release announcing that suspension, the school also revealed they would be sans a couple of potential offensive playmakers as well as they begin initial preparations for that opener.

Per the release, sophomore wide receiver Joshua Adams and junior wideout Todd Harrelson will not participate in spring practice, albeit for entirely different reasons.

Adams, the release read, was diagnosed in January with ANCA Vasculitis, an auto-immune disorder that affects his kidneys. He is currently being treated by UNC Hospitals’ Chief of Nephrology Dr. Ronald Falk, and UNC Director of Sports Medicine Dr. Mario Ciocca. It’s also unclear whether he’ll be available for the summer camp as his playing status for next fall will be updated later this summer.

Adams’ 19 catches in 2010 make him UNC’s third-leading returning receiver.

Harrelson, on the other hand, will focus on his academics this semester and will not participate in the spring sessions. Last season, Harrelson had two receptions for 41 yards.

In addition to Adams and Harrelson, sophomore cornerback Terry Shankle will miss the sessions as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL suffered last October.

The Tar Heels will open spring practice March 16.
