WVU officially loses assistant to Wake

A little less than a week after word first surfaced that Lonnie Galloway was leaving West Virginia for a job at Wake Forest, the latter school made the hiring officially official.

Wake Forest announced in the release that Galloway will serve as both their wide receivers and co-passing game coordinator.

Galloway will replace Brian Knorr, who was named the Demon Deacons’ co-defensive coordinator.

“I am very excited with the addition of Lonnie Galloway to our staff,” head coach Jim Grobe said in a statement. “He has been associated with some great programs and will bring a lot to the offensive side of the ball.”

Galloway spent the past three years as receivers coach with the Mountaineers. He started his coaching career in 1996 at Elon, where he served as the quarterbacks and WR coach through 2002. He spent two years as the WRs coach at East Carolina University before moving to Appalachian State for a three-year stint from 2005 through 2007.
