A pair of rumors involving Seantrel Henderson made the rounds earlier this month that questioned the mammoth offensive lineman’s short- and long-term future at Miami.
The first involved Henderson being unhappy at the school and strongly considering a transfer. That speculation was immediately and swiftly shot down by everyone from head coach Al Golden to Henderson’s father to Henderson himself.
The second concerned the sophomore lineman, along with five of his Hurricane teammates, facing a suspension for the season opener on the road against Maryland. On this front, and unlike the other rumor, the silence has been deafening.
Henderson was again handed a bucket of water from the media Saturday morning and could’ve doused a fire that’s been burning for more than two weeks. And, of course, he didn’t.
“I really don’t speak on rumors,” Henderson said when asked about a potential suspension, and shortly after he again addressed the transfer rumors.
Jorge Milian of the Palm Beach Post said it best when he wrote "[w]hy neither coach Al Golden nor Henderson won’t come out and definitively say that the gigantic sophomore hasn’t been suspended is beyond me. Why not just snuff out the ‘rumors’ and move on?”
There’s probably actually a relatively easy answer to the question Milian poses. The suspension rumors are indeed true, and, for whatever reason, Golden doesn’t feel the need to confirm them at this point in time.
Hey, it’s his football program. He can handle it whatever way he sees fit, regardless of how head-scratching it looks to the people on the outside looking in.
