Kiffin thinks injured back is stretching reality

After Marc Tyler suffered what might turn out to be a spring-ending hamstring injury during USC’s first practice last week, the running back indicated that a lack of proper stretching led to him being sidelined.

I didn’t know we weren’t going to stretch like we usually do,” the senior said. “I guess they want us to come here earlier and stretch before. I didn’t know they changed it. My legs didn’t feel good all practice.”

Tyler’s head coach, however, begs to differ.

Kiffin caught wind of Tyler’s explanation as to the reason behind the injury, and wasn’t buying what the back was trying to sell. So, Kiffin & Company had a little “talk” with the Trojans’ leading rusher in 2010.

“We’ve discussed that with Marc,” Kiffin said. “Since he pulled his hamstring two hours into practice, it wasn’t the stretching before that.”

To further drive home his point, Kiffin noted that USC utilizes four stretching tables, something “I don’t think any college in America does.”

Regardless of how the injury occurred, the hamstring will likely force Tyler to miss the remainder of the Trojans’ spring practice, which will culminate with the playing of the annual spring game April 23.
