Six months after being dismissed from the Georgia Tech football program for violating unspecified team rules, Chris Jackson appears to be getting back into the good graces of head coach Paul Johnson.
Jackson’s former high school coach told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that, if his former player meets several conditions set by Johnson, he would be reinstated to the football program this summer.
It appears that one of those conditions involves academics; Rex Robertson, Jackson’s high school offensive coordinator, told the paper that the A-back is nearing the magic 2.0 GPA number and has been taking summer classes to get to that mark.
“He had to make a lifestyle change and he did that over the last five months,” Robertson said.
Jackson was a wide receiver at Alabama before leaving the Tide in July of 2009 and transferring to Tech. He did not play that season due to NCAA transfer rules, then missed the entire 2010 season due to a hamstring issue and subsequent dismissal.
Jackson, who was a three-star recruit coming out of McDonough, Ga., played in 12 games in 2008 for the Tide. He had originally given a verbal commitment to Tech but withdrew it after Chan Gailey was fired and Johnson took over.
